Wilmer D. Lawrence, 85, Bargersville
Wilmer D. Lawrence, age 85, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Homeview Nursing Home in Franklin. Mr. Lawrence was a longtime resident of Bargersville.
He was born on July 2, 1924 in Greene County, Indiana to Charles Albert and Chloe W. (Lynn) Lawrence. He married Elmina “Hope” (Barrett) Lawrence on March 17, 1945. She preceded him in passing in October, 2004. Survivors include daughter, Barbara Bremer-Viking and husband Matthew of San Pedro, California; two grandsons, Charles Lawrence Bremer and wife Erin of Temecula, California and Robert Allen Bremer of Louisville, Texas; great-grandson, Owen Lawrence Bremer of Temecula, California and one sister, Beverly Jane Voison of Linton, Indiana. He was preceded in passing by his parents, wife Hope, son David Barrett Lawrence and sisters, Pauline Decker and Charlotte Haus.
Wilmer was a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School. He was a graduate of Indiana Central University (now, University of Indianapolis). He received his graduate work at Butler and Indiana University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and the Korean War.
He was employed as a school teacher for two years at Decatur Central High School. He taught business for many years at Indiana Central University, later serving as Registrar at the university for approximately thirty years, until retirement in 1984.
He was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Franklin. He served in the Stake Presidency and later became Stake Patriarch. He was a former President of the IACRAO. He was a member of Bargersville Senior Center and attended Franklin Senior Center.
A service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 201 Eastview Drive, Franklin, Indiana 46131.
Friends may call on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, Indiana where military graveside rites will be conducted.
